ALM SDLC

ALM – Application Lifecycle Management (product life cycle, project life cycle seems synonyms to ALM)

SDLC – Software Development Life Cycle

ALM is a process to manage an application from its cradle to grave (governance, development, operations / maintenance, closure). SDLC relates to development phase. For example, Windows Mobile operation system was started early 2000 and completed early 2010 (ALM might be compared to this 10 year period). Within this period, every version might have been developed by following SDLC process.

For ALM, it is better to refer PMI PMBOK. For SDLC, it is better to refer IEEE Computer Society Software Engineering Body of Knowledge. Both of these are guidelines, feel free to fine tune to your needs and the way it works for you to achieve the goals.
