Walt Disney World trip is a good one to do it in late spring / late fall (~75 – 80F). Orlando has lots to do for a vacation of any length (http://www.visitorlando.com/) – Disney, SeaWorld, Universal, LEGOLAND, etc.
For Walt Disney World (the one in LA is called Disneyland), this site is the thumb rule site http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/ (7 attractions including Downtown Disney – filter based on needs). I have stayed in Pop Century resort of Disney http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/ (value resort type) and the Disney resort benefits are good http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts-benefits/
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/contemporary-resort/ this is very close to Main park (Magic Kingdom) but ~3 times costlier than value resort. Like this there are many resorts. Try to enjoy a water taxi ride which I haven’t done and I was not aware of it before I reached there http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/disneys-boardwalk/transportation/
Look at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/calendar/extramagichours/ for extended hours and plan the park date accordingly during your trip.
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/maps/ this is for park maps. My suggestion is to limit one park per day. Choose the best park of your choice for the initial 2 to 3 days (early dismissal from room before 7:30am).
I have used the book from county library from this publisher http://www.fodors.com/world/north-america/usa/florida/walt-disney-world-orlando/ to list the attractions within a park based on some rating and our taste. You may find an older year version of this book as well in library http://www.fodors.com/guidebooks/9780307929228/
Try http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/vacation-packages/ else book it through AAA.
